Yellow Tortoise Celluloid Binding

This is the real stuff! True vintage-style celluloid nitrate now with a yellow hue. It's lighter in color and more translucent than our traditional Tortoise Celluloid Binding. The pattern also has more movement.

The natural look and warm glow matches the vintage quality of the earliest tortoise instrument bindings. With multiple widths we've made it easy to find the right size for binding bodies, headstocks, and fingerboards.

StewMac celluloid bindings are 54" long (137cm)—two pieces will reach completely around one side of a guitar body.

Custom Binding Installation Tips

Laminate bindings
You can sandwich strips together using our Binding Laminator and acetone. Measure carefully before you rout the channels, and almost any combination can be installed.

Binding Laminator

We recommend StewMac Bind-ALL Guitar Binding Glue for the best results when installing plastic binding, even on oily tonewoods. It has just the right amount of tackiness to keep the bindings in place while securing them to the body.

To hold the bindings in place as the glue dries, use Brown Binding Tape or Rubber Clamping Bands.

For a clean look, once the glue is dry trim the bindings flush to the surrounding wood with a Scraper Blade.
