DiamondCut™ Nut Slotting Files
Files that cut with exacting precision and won't EVER go dull
These professional nut slotting files are coated with industrial diamonds, making them the smoothest and finest cutting files we've ever made. Yes, they're expensive, but they're the last nut files you'll EVER need.
Our Gauged Nut Slotting Files have been the industry standard for years. We knew we could redefine the standard and completely revolutionize this crucial task. We set out with an ambitious goal: to make the longest lasting, most precise, fastest working nut files ever. Not only that, they also had to cut through even the hardest nut and saddle materials.
Diamonds are a luthier's best friend
After researching countless metals, abrasives, and file types we found that diamonds are simply the best for slotting nuts and saddles:
- The diamond coating perfectly matches the rounded shape of the string—you'll cut a rounded bottom and straight sides, all at the same time. No other file can do this.
- The evenly distributed diamond particles create a perfectly smooth slot; even the finest toothed files can chatter and leave tool marks.
- They cut on the push AND pull stroke, doubling cutting speed, and making the job much faster.
- These files don't drift when cutting like toothed files—you'll cut a straight slot, ideal for better sound, intonation, and playability.
And, diamonds cut through anything quickly and accurately! Bone, Corian, fossilized ivory, brass, zinc—nothing stops these files.
"These files cut faster and more accurately than traditional toothed files and have made it so much faster to slot a blank nut. And while they're on the expensive side, they're an investment I wouldn't hesitate to make again!"

A tool for discerning luthiers and players
If you make your living satisfying the demands of professional players, these files will consistently elevate your nut, saddle, and set-up work. These are an investment in building your reputation as a craftsman that you won't regret. Backed by our lifetime promise, these prized tools will earn their keep on your bench for decades.
To make files this fine and precise, we had to vary the grit. The 0.010" and 0.013" are 400-grit, the 0.016" and 0.020" are 300-grit, and the 0.024"-0.056" are 150-grit. The finer grit lets even the thinnest files cut straight and smooth without "wandering" like thinner files will do.
Get a better grip on your files!
Our new Nut File Backer makes these files even easier to use. It acts like a spine, stiffening the file for a straighter, more accurate cut—no more slipping and sliding on a slick nut or saddle. We have models for narrow and wide files, giving you complete control.
