ColorTone Aerosol Finishing Set with 50s Classic Color Lacquer

Everything you need to get that perfect 50s color
When you are looking for the exact vintage color straight out of the 1950s without complicated and expensive spray equipment, this is the set you need.

Even if you're a beginner, you'll get professional results and a finish you'll be proud of. Don't waste hours endlessly chasing a color that is not quite right—we've done the hard work for you!

Find your perfect finish
Our R&D team spent countless hours examining vintage finishes, lacquer formulas, and endlessly testing these sets to make sure you'll get the exact color you're looking for. There are many factors in getting a finish "just right", and we've worked tirelessly to take out all of the guesswork.

Professional results at home
ColorTone nitrocellulose aerosols are designed for professional finishing, right out of the can. These aerosols are easy to apply, and perfect for new finishes or re-fins. We designed the lacquers and the spray nozzles especially for guitar finishing. Nitro lacquer is the traditional choice for fine instruments, and is what guitars from the Golden Era of the 1950s and earlier are finished with.

Everything you need to totally finish one instrument from start to finish. It's all there—from filling the pores to spraying the final clear coat. It's never been easier to get a truly flawless finish with simple to use professional-grade aerosols. We've picked the right stuff you need to get the look you want, no need to guess on what filler, color, or how much lacquer you need. It's all there and ready for you to spray your perfect finish. We've written up instructions for each set and our tech team is here to help if you have any questions.

Take a look at the fantastic finishes you can make:

12225 Blond, with Ash grain filler
This is the timeless blond finish seen on 1950s and 1960s Teles. You can make your finish as translucent or as opaque as you want just by varying how much color you apply, just like they did at the factory.

2226 TV Yellow, with Mahogany grain filler
This is the distinctive warm yellow that is the signature color of Gibson® Les Paul® Juniors and Specials. You can make your finish as translucent or as opaque as you want, it's up to you.

2227 Sonic Blue, with Neutral grain filler
This is the beautiful light blue seen on Fender guitars from the 1960s. The super vibrant blue was inspired by the hot rod cars of southern California.

2228 Aged Clear, no grain filler
This set is a variation of the clear coat for a “natural” finished maple-bodied guitar, but with less Amber coloring. If you are looking for a subtly-aged look, this is the place to start. Includes two cans of Aged Clear lacquer to perfectly dial in your color.

"I see a lot of vintage guitars in my shop. Most aerosols don't really come close to looking like the colors they are intended to. These ColorTone finishes nail the look of vintage beauties I've had on my bench."
—Erick Coleman, guitar repairman and StewMac tech advisor

Pro shops spray heated lacquer because cold lacquer spatters, requiring extra sanding. You should warm up your aerosol lacquer too, simply soak the cans in a sink of warm tap water. See our video with even more tips on how to spray a professional finish at home.
