Find your perfect finish

Professional results at home
ColorTone nitrocellulose aerosols are designed for professional finishing, right out of the can. These aerosols are easy to apply, and perfect for new finishes or re-fins. We designed the lacquers and the spray nozzles especially for guitar finishing. Nitro lacquer is the traditional choice for fine instruments, and is what guitars from the Golden Era of the 1950s and earlier are finished with.
Everything you need to totally finish one instrument from start to finish. It's all there—from filling the pores to spraying the final clear coat. It's never been easier to get a truly flawless finish with simple to use professional-grade aerosols. We've picked the right stuff you need to get the look you want, no need to guess on what filler, color, or how much lacquer you need. It's all there and ready for you to spray your perfect finish. We've written up instructions for each set and our tech team is here to help if you have any questions.
Take a look at the fantastic finishes you can make:
12221 Cherry Red, with Rosewood (Medium Brown) grain filler
This is the cherry finish you know from vintage SGs, Juniors, and ES-335s. It’s also used on the mahogany back and sides of acoustics like Hummingbirds and J-45s.
2222 Tobacco Brown, with Ebony grain filler
We developed this color initially for sunbursting, but found that it also replicated the Gibson® walnut finish beautifully. It’s a translucent brown that still allows for the grain to come through.
2223 Red Mahogany, with Rosewood (Reddish Brown) grain filler
This set replicates that darker red/brown color seen in some SGs. This color is a vintage-looking alternative to the classic cherry.
"I see a lot of vintage guitars in my shop. Most aerosols don't really come close to looking like the colors they are intended to. These ColorTone finishes nail the look of vintage beauties I've had on my bench."
—Erick Coleman, guitar repairman and StewMac tech advisor

Tip: Use warm lacquer for better results
Pro shops spray heated lacquer because cold lacquer spatters, requiring extra sanding. You should warm up your aerosol lacquer too, simply soak the cans in a sink of warm tap water. See our video with even more tips on how to spray a professional finish at home.
